Desktop app
Uninstall the Colabio desktop app
Colabio is removed like any other app, with your computer’s normal uninstall. Removing it stops every kind of capture on that computer. Your account, your organizations and the time you already tracked are not affected; this page says what to do first, how to uninstall on each system, and what stays where.
Before you uninstall
Two minutes that make sure nothing you tracked is lost.
- 1
Stop the timer
Open Colabio and stop any running timer. Capture stops the moment the timer does.
- 2
Give it a minute to sync
Time tracked while you were offline waits in the app's data folder on your computer until it reaches the server. Leave the app open and connected for a minute so the last minutes are saved; minutes that never synced cannot be recovered once the app and its data are gone.
- 3
Signing out is optional
The uninstall removes the stored sign-in on Windows; on macOS and Linux it goes with the data folder in the optional clean-up step below.
macOS
Colabio is a normal application in your Applications folder. Steps 3 and 4 are optional clean-up.
- 1
Quit Colabio
Click the Colabio icon in the menu bar and choose Quit, or press ⌘Q with the Colabio window in front.
- 2
Move the app to the Trash
Open Finder → Applications, drag Colabio to the Trash (or right-click it and choose Move to Trash), then empty the Trash.
- 3
Remove the coding-agent hooks
Only if your organization captured AI prompts: follow Coding agents below before the next step. A hook left behind after the data folder is gone makes the agent report an error on every prompt.
- 4
Optional: remove its data
In Finder choose Go → Go to Folder and delete these folders if they exist:
~/Library/Application Support/colabio(settings, stored sign-in and the offline cache),~/Library/Logs/colabio(logs) and~/.colabio(the on-device Voice Typing model, up to about 700 MB). - 5
Optional: remove the Keychain item and permissions
In Keychain Access, search for
colabio Safe Storageand delete it; it is the key the app used to encrypt your sign-in. In System Settings → Privacy & Security, open Screen & System Audio Recording, Accessibility, Automation and Microphone, and remove Colabio from each list with the minus button.
Windows
The uninstaller removes the app and its data in one go.
- 1
Quit Colabio
Right-click the Colabio icon in the system tray (next to the clock) and choose Quit.
- 2
Uninstall it like any other app
Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps (Windows 11) or Apps & features (Windows 10), find Colabio, choose Uninstall and confirm. Control Panel → Programs and Features works too.
- 3
Nothing to clean up by hand
The uninstaller removes the app, its data folder under
AppData\Roaming(settings, stored sign-in and offline cache), the Voice Typing model under%USERPROFILE%\.colabioand the AI prompt hooks in your coding agents’ settings. Colabio installs for the user who ran the installer, so if it is missing from the list, sign in as that user, or runUninstall Colabio.exefrom%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Colabio.
Linux
Colabio for Linux is a .deb package; your package manager removes it.
- 1
Quit Colabio
Right-click the Colabio icon in the panel or tray and choose Quit.
- 2
Remove the package
On Ubuntu, Debian and other systems that installed the
.deb, runsudo apt remove colabio(orsudo dpkg -r colabio). This removes the app and its helper binary. If your organization captured AI prompts, remove the coding-agent hooks before the next step. - 3
Optional: remove its data
Delete
~/.config/colabio(settings, stored sign-in and the offline cache) and~/.colabio(the Voice Typing model). On GNOME, Colabio also installs a small Shell extension that it uses for screenshots and the window in front; remove~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/colabio@colabio.org(orcolabio-es6@colabio.org) and log out and back in. If Passwords and Keys shows an entry for Colabio, you can delete it.
Coding agents
Only if your organization captured AI prompts or shared skills with you. The Windows uninstaller removes the hooks for you; on macOS and Linux, or if an entry is still there, remove it by hand.
To record AI prompts, the app adds one hook to each coding agent’s settings, and nothing else in those files. Open each file below that exists, delete the hook entry whose command contains colabio-prompt-hook, and save. Your own settings and hooks stay as they are. If you pasted a Colabio block into Codex’s config.toml, delete that block too.
| Agent | macOS and Linux | Windows |
|---|---|---|
| Claude Code | ~/.claude/settings.json | %USERPROFILE%\.claude\settings.json |
| Cursor | ~/.cursor/hooks.json | %USERPROFILE%\.cursor\hooks.json |
| Antigravity | ~/.gemini/config/hooks.json | %USERPROFILE%\.gemini\config\hooks.json |
| Codex | ~/.codex/hooks.json | %USERPROFILE%\.codex\hooks.json |
Skills your organization shared are folders whose names start with colabio- in ~/.claude/skills, ~/.codex/skills and ~/.cursor/skills. They are plain files your agents read and keep working without Colabio, so uninstalling leaves them; delete the folders if you no longer want them. How capture works is in AI prompts and Team Skills.
What goes and what stays
Uninstalling removes what lives on your computer. What has already synced lives in your organization's workspace and follows the Privacy Policy.
Removed with the app
- Your stored sign-in and the app's settings
- Screenshots, recordings and tracked minutes still waiting to upload
- The on-device Voice Typing model
- On Windows, the AI prompt hooks in your coding agents' settings
Stays in your organization’s workspace
- Tracked time, timesheets and activity levels already synced
- Screenshots, app and website records already uploaded
- Daily updates, tasks, projects and invoices
- Your account, your membership of each organization and any subscription
You can delete your own screenshots from the web dashboard at any time. To leave an organization or delete your account, see User Control & Erasure in the Privacy Policy, or email support@colabio.org. A subscription is cancelled by an organization manager under Billing, not by uninstalling.
Reinstalling
Download the app again and sign in with the same account.
The latest build for macOS, Windows and Linux is always at colabio.org/download. Your organization’s capture settings for you apply as before, the app shows you the capture notice again before your first timer, and after that it updates itself. Release notes are at colabio.org/updates.
Questions
Does uninstalling stop my organization from seeing my activity?
From that computer, yes: with the app gone nothing more is captured there. Everything already synced stays in your organization's workspace under its retention rules, and you can still see and delete your own screenshots from the web dashboard.
Does it delete my account or cancel the subscription?
No. Uninstalling only removes the app from one computer. To leave an organization or delete your account, follow the Privacy Policy's User Control & Erasure section or email support; an organization manager cancels a plan under Billing.
Will I lose time I tracked while offline?
Only minutes that never reached the server. Stop the timer and leave the app open and connected for a minute before uninstalling, and check the timesheet on the web afterwards.
The macOS permissions still list Colabio after I removed it. Is anything still running?
No. macOS keeps the permission entries until you remove them yourself under System Settings → Privacy & Security; nothing can use them once the app is gone.
Can I just reinstall later?
Yes. Download the app again from colabio.org/download and sign in with the same account. Your organization's capture settings for you apply as before, and the app updates itself after that.
